Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres portrayed the princesse de Broglie in shimmering blue satin, leaning against a damask chair beside her gloves and fan. Ingres rendered every fold of silk, strand of pearls and gleam of gold with breathtaking precision, while the sitter's expression remains cool and reserved. She died of tuberculosis in 1860, still in her thirties. Robert Lehman Collection, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
