Eleonora di Toledo, the Spanish-born wife of Duke Cosimo I de' Medici, helped govern Florence and made the Pitti Palace the family residence. Agnolo Bronzino, the Medici court painter, portrayed her many times. This late image shows her in rich clothing, with a cool, composed expression that typifies Bronzino's polished court style. Samuel H. Kress Collection, National Gallery of Art, Washington.
